Eyes on the Prize

Bright light hurts my eyes
only momentarily
with my blinders off.

So…

No more looking back
or spinning ’round in circles.
Focus forward now.

Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again (lyrics):

You were once my one companion,
You were all that mattered.
You were once a friend and father,
Then my world was shattered.

Wishing you were somehow here again,
Wishing you were somehow near.
Sometimes it seemed if I just dreamed,
Somehow you would be here.

Wishing I could hear your voice again,
Knowing that I never would.
Dreaming of you, won’t help me to do,
All that you dreamed I could!

Passing bells and sculpted angels,
Cold and monumental.
Seem, for you, the wrong companions,
You were warm and gentle.

Too many years fighting back tears,
Why can’t the past just die!

Wishing you were somehow here again,
Knowing we must say goodbye!
Try to forgive, teach me to live!
Give me the strength to try!

No more memories, no more silent tears!
No more gazing across the wasted years!
Help me say goodbye
Help me say goodbye.

  1. [smile] Nice haiku

Blinders do not keep us focused on what lies ahead.
They give us tunnel vision, obscuring the possibilities.

    • Yes.. exactly…and thank you Peter. I think this is one I wish to revise.. I didn’t put much effort into it – and think I missed something I was trying to convey along the way. I meant to reflect more of how I wish to be in the here and now… and let go of the past… with the hopes of a brighter future. I’m one who likes to reminisce – always have been – but, I’m learning it’s ok to keep memories, but to let go at the same time…
